Sun Light & Good Health

Spending time in the sun can have several benefits for our physical and mental health, but it’s important to do so safely and in moderation. Here are a few reasons why spending time in the sun can be beneficial:

  1. Vitamin D: Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which is important for bone health, immune function, and other physiological processes. When your skin is exposed to sunlight, it produces vitamin D.
  2. Reduced risk of certain diseases: Sunlight exposure has been linked to a reduced risk of certain diseases, such as osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, and some types of cancer.
  3. Mood: Sunlight can help improve your mood by boosting serotonin levels in your brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that affects your mood, appetite, and sleep.
  4. Skin health: Sunlight can help improve certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema. It can also help stimulate the production of collagen, which can help keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.
  5. Blood pressure: Sunlight can help lower blood pressure by widening blood vessels and improving circulation.
  6. Increased energy: Sunlight exposure can help boost our energy levels, making us feel more alert and focused.
  7. Better sleep: Exposure to sunlight during the day can help regulate our body’s natural sleep-wake cycle i.e. circadian rhythm, which can improve our ability to fall asleep at night.

However, it’s important to note that excessive sun exposure can also be harmful to your health, as it can increase your risk of skin cancer and other skin damage. It’s important to strike a balance between getting enough sun exposure to reap the benefits and protecting your skin from harm by wearing sunscreen, protective clothing, seeking shade during the hottest parts of the day and avoiding prolonged exposure during peak hours (10am-4pm). Overexposure to the sun can increase the risk of skin cancer, premature aging, and other skin damage.

If you are unable to go outside, just make sure you remove the blinds and curtains first thing in the morning and allow the natural sun light fill your entire home. It just lights up your mood as well as your room.
